LED Strip Lighting: The Complete Installation Guide

LED Strip Lighting: The Complete Installation Guide

LED strip lighting has become one of the most versatile tools in modern interior design. Done right, it disappears into the architecture and makes a space feel like it was designed by someone who really knew what they were doing. Done wrong, it looks like a gaming setup from 2015.

Here's how to do it right.

Choose the right colour temperature

This is the single most important decision you'll make. Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K):

  • 2700K — warm white, intimate, ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, dining areas
  • 3000K — warm neutral, works well in kitchens and bathrooms
  • 4000K+ — cool white, clinical, best for offices and workspaces

For luxury residential spaces, we almost always specify 2700K. It's flattering, warm, and works beautifully with dark interiors and natural materials.

Use aluminium profiles

Bare LED strips stuck directly to a surface look cheap and create hotspots — bright dots of light instead of a smooth, even glow. Aluminium profiles solve both problems. They diffuse the light evenly and protect the strip from heat and dust. For cove lighting and ceiling perimeters, a recessed profile gives a completely seamless result.

Calculate your wattage correctly

Before you buy anything, calculate the total length of strip you need and check the wattage per metre. Make sure your power supply can handle the load — ideally with 20% headroom. Underpowered strips flicker, overheat, and fail early.

Always use a dimmer

A non-dimmable LED strip installation is a missed opportunity. Dimming transforms the atmosphere of a room completely. Make sure your dimmer is compatible with your specific strip — not all dimmers work with all LED drivers.

Plan your runs carefully

LED strips have a maximum run length before voltage drop causes the far end to appear dimmer than the near end. For most high-quality strips, this is around 5 metres per run. For longer installations, inject power at multiple points or use a higher voltage system (24V instead of 12V).

The result

When LED strip lighting is installed correctly — right temperature, proper profiles, quality dimming — it becomes invisible in the best possible way. You don't notice the strip. You notice how the room feels.

We install LED strip systems across Greece and internationally. If you're planning a project, get in touch and we'll help you get it right from the start.
